The Problem With Hiring Web Developers in India
India has no shortage of web developers. Freelancer platforms, agency websites, and social media are full of people offering to build your website. The prices range from ₹3,000 to ₹3,00,000 for what appears to be the same service.
The challenge is not finding a web developer. The challenge is finding the right one.

Question 1: Can I See 3-5 Live Websites You Have Built?
This is the most important question. Not screenshots. Not mockups. Live URLs that you can visit right now.
When you visit these sites, check:
- Does it load quickly on your phone?
- Does it look good on a small screen?
- Is it still working and maintained?
- Does it look like the kind of website you want?
If a developer cannot show you live work, there is a reason.
Question 2: What Is Your Exact Process?
A professional web developer or agency should be able to walk you through their process step by step. At minimum, you should hear something like:
Discovery → Proposal → Design → Development → Testing → Review → Launch
Vague answers like "we will build it and show you" are a warning sign. You want someone who has done this enough times that their process is repeatable and predictable.
Question 3: What Technology Will You Use?
This matters more than most clients realise. There is a significant difference between:

Get a written list of deliverables before you pay anything. This should include:

"A few weeks" is not a timeline. Get specific dates:
- When does design start?
- When will I see the first draft?
- When is the final launch date?
Then ask: what happens if you miss these dates? A professional developer will have a clear answer. They may also ask you to commit to timely feedback — which is reasonable and a sign of a mature working relationship.
Question 6: What Is Included After Launch?
The website going live is the beginning, not the end. You will need:
- Bug fixes if something breaks
- Content updates
- Security updates
- Performance monitoring
